The Universidad del Este (UNE) of the Ana G. Méndez University System is pleased to announce that it hosted Professor Yuriria Hernández of Mexico, a Visiting Fulbright Scholar in Residence at Fort Hays State University, Kansas, on Tuesday, April 24th and Wednesday, April 25th 2012, at its Carolina Campus.
During her 2-day visit at UNE the Fulbright Scholar presented two lectures. The first one, entitled “Culture, Diversity and Language in Education” was presented on Tuesday, April 24th at 1:00 PM in Pasillo I, Room C-159. The presentation explored the ways that education programs adapt to cultural diversity and how inclusive and cooperative learning environments can enhance educational experiences.
The second lecture, entitled “The History, Culture and People of Mexico”, was presented on Wednesday, April 25th at 10:00 AM in Rooms T-208 &T-209 of the Jose A. (Tony) Santana International School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts (ISHCA) . This second presentation focused on transitions in Mexico from the pre-Hispanic era to the present day, and introduced participants to Mexico’s rich culture.
In Mexico, Prof. Hernández works as a part-time English as a Foreign Language (EFL) professor at the Universidad Tecnológica de Tulancingo (UTec) in the state of Hidalgo, where she teaches English at basic, intermediate and advanced proficiency levels. In addition to teaching both face-to-face and online courses, Professor Hernández’ responsibilities at Utec include the creation and evaluation of programs, as well as the design of assessment rubrics, competency-based class planning and the development of didactic material.
Prof. Hernández holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Universidad ETAC and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology at the Virtual University of the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM).
The Office of the Chancellor and the Office of International, Federal and Corporate Affairs are sponsoring and organizing UNE’s Visiting Fulbright Scholar Lecture series, to help internationalize the university. This lecture is being co-sponsored by UNE’s School of Education.
