Biography of Visiting Fulbright Lecturer: Dr. Sylvan Blignaut

Sylvan Blignaut, Ph

 Dr. Sylvan Blignaut is a Senior Lecturer for the Faculty of Education at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, located in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.  Currently, Dr. Blignaut is participating in the Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Washington, Bothell, located just outside of Seattle, Washington.

 Dr. Blignaut completed his PhD in 2006 and his research interests and writing have focused on Curriculum Policy, Classroom Practice, and Teacher Epistemologies. His Doctoral thesis was entitled, “Teacher Epistemologies as Frame Factor in the Implementation of Curriculum Policy”.  The thesis has been widely acclaimed by external examiners and was accepted as is (without any changes) which happen in less than 1% of theses in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

 Dr. Blignaut teaches Masters’ Program Curriculum Studies comprising the following courses: Curriculum Policy; Curriculum Planning; Curriculum Implementation; Curriculum Evaluation; Research Methodology. He also teaches Curriculum Design and Development to undergraduate students.
